A study released recently shows that even though the USA is more diverse in private sectors and in society in general. politics is one area that the majority of workers are white men. This accounts for almost all levels of government, but is especially noticeable in higher levels, such as the federal governments and our Congress, for example. White men are 31% of the population, but 97% of all Republican elected officials are white and 76% are male. For all Democratic elected officials, 79% are white and 65% are male. A big setback for women and minorities to run for office is money; many white male candidates have vast networks for fundraising money that their competitors don't have.
